The majority of contributions to the OSS (open source software) community are made by practitioners acting on behalf of their own initiative, their company, or any other organisation.
All the Mind ‘wisdom’ is translating into various contributions from our experts.
Below an overview of OSS presentations, Linux kernel and Zephyr contributions, Buildroot enhancements, etc.
Recent upstream work
- Ben Hutchings added host-gnupg2 to Buildroot, which can be used for signing update images.
- Thomas Perale added support for a pre-built Go compiler to Buildroot.
- Hugo Cornelis fixed the error path of the key file handling in U-Boot.
- Ben Hutchings fixed a security issue due to permissions in Buildroot.
- Thomas Perale added a new way to generate SBoM in CycloneDX format to Buildroot.
- Ben Hutchings made some improvements to qt6 support (qmake, DirectFB) in Buildroot.
- Javad Rahimipetroudi sent a patch series to update bootloader and kernel for the Avenger96 board in Buildroot.
- Thomas Perale made a small documentation fix for the Phalcon PHP framework.
- Raphaël Melotte sent a patch series to update pymupdf in Buildroot. During review he also noticed and fixed a typo in the manual.
- Javad Rahimipetroudi created a pull request for the ST VL53L0CXV0DH/1 time-of-flight ranging sensor and the ST ISM330DHCX inertial module to the Zephyr BSP for the STM32WB5MM-DK board.
- Javad Rahimipetroudi created a pull request that adds a driver for the TI TLC59731 RGB LED controller to Zephyr. Although this device drives just a single LED, several of them can be chained together, so it is modeled as a LED strip in Zephyr.
- Javad Rahimipetroudi added support for the STM32WB5MM-DK board.
- Javad Rahimipetroudi added support for the STM32WB5MMG BLE module to the Zephyr BSP for the ST B_U585I_IOT02A Discovery kit. This was quite the challenge, because the STM32WB5MMG itself contains an ARM M4 microcontroller as well, and this also needs firmware. Javad ended up writing a Zephyr BSP for that too.
- Hugo Cornelis added a patch to U-Boot to properly error out when trying to produce a key file with a too long name. It also increases the maximum file name length to PATH_MAX instead of an arbitrary limit.
- Marleen Vos submitted a patch series to update ARM Trusted Firmware (TF-A) on STM32MP15 platforms to Buildroot. Like so often, the simple “let’s update one package” turned into a whole series of 7 patches.
- Javad Rahimipetroudi reworked the OpenWRT developer guide. OpenWRT has a lot of developer documentation, but it is quite chaotic and hard to navigate. The new structure will hopefully help developers to find their way and in the end make better contributions. Javad also added tutorial pages for creating cmake and meson packages.
- Charles-Antoine Couret contributed a patch series that adds the IMAGE_FILE_MAXSIZE variable to give the exact size of the rootfs instead of a heuristic based on disk usage to openembedded-core (maintained by the Yocto project).
- Ben Hutchings added support for RSSI notifications to the out-of-tree Realtek rtl8812au Wi-Fi driver. And while at it, he added compatiblity for a bunch of Linux kernel versions up to 6.6.
- Arnout Vandecappelle added support for custom keys and certificates to the EdgeLock2GO integration of Foundries.io’s Linux microPlatform. This includes documentation.
- Olivier L’Heureux added a fix for dockerless deployments to the EdgeLock2GO auto-registration in Foundries.io’s Linux microPlatform.
- Charles-Antoine Couret added a fix for systemd-boot to openembedded-core (maintained by the Yocto project).
- Javad Rahimipetroudi contributed support for the OrangePi PC2 board to Buildroot. He followed up with several updates.
